TBT:: A 20th birthday tale.

Thursday, August 14, 2014

Hello Thursday, let's do a little throwback story, shall we?

Remember those ridiculous college stories? Recently I have been catching up with an old, but dear, friend. It had been amazing reconnecting, while a little bit surreal, but I LOVE the nostalgia that comes with it. That's the great thing about friends, they help you fill in the holes you might have developed over the years. We were recently laughing about the unfortunate events that unfolded on my 20th birthday.
Gah, I used to LOVE me some white eye shadow?!

We decided to hit up a party on the same street known as "frat row", while this party was just a house party and not affiliated with any fraternities, it probably wasn't the smartest idea. It wasn't a huge party, raging out a of control, just a small group of college kids listening to music, playing beer pong, and chatting around an obnoxious strobe light on the balcony (it was a split house, the party was on the top half of the duplex).

Everything was going fine and dandy, we were having a great time. I was trying hard at beer pong, and loosing horribly. Of course, when it's your 20th birthday, loosing at beer pong isn't the worst thing to happen to you (I was thirsty after all...).  The party came to unfortunate buzz kill, when the police showed up. Of course when you're 20 years old and you weren't playing beer pong with water... you hide. In the attic. Covered in INSTALLATION! When we emerged from the attic some 45 minutes later, we were filthy and itchy as haaaaaaail! When showers are NEEDED, it's a pretty good sign to call a cab, and surrender to the night. And that is exactly what we did.

I fell, and it hurt.

I have learned a few things this week, and it's only Tuesday night. Here are some of them.

--When a celebrity as fantastic as Robin Williams passes away, the world weeps. My favorite tweet I saw said "So many tweets, status updates, and instagrams of Robin Williams. And the man deserves every single damn one of them". I am a part of that percentage of people saddened by his death, and it really shows the world that suicide is a result that stems from illness.

--I have also learned, it makes a lot of people angry when there are so many mourning the death of a man they have never met, when there are wars and genocides going on. I get that, I don't think it means people are uneducated on the subject (well some are). I still pray for all the innocent victims involved.

--I have also learned this week that my treadmill is kind of small. And if I get going too fast and not pay attention, I fall right off the back of that jerk of a treadmill. Lesson learned though, wear the safety pull, and possibly record workouts, because I'm sure it looked damn funny. I also learned Epsom salt and a hot bath is your best friend the day after a spill on the ol' treadmill.
Looks about right, of course I wasn't going that fast though...

How I felt crawling out of bed this morning...

--Breastfeeding is a pretty big deal lately. I'm all for it, and I hope that I can nurse when I have children. I see more pictures of women breastfeeding on social media, far more than I EVER see out in public. I'm not sure I ever even noticed if a woman was nursing out in public before all this? I know they must of been there, I just never noticed. Is social media just drawing more of the "unwanted" and negative attention to breast feeding mama's? Do I not understand because I'm not a mom (for the record, no I don't think women should have to feed their babies in a bath room stall)? Maybe I'm just getting to that age where more of my friends are having babies so this topic is just more predominant? I don't know, I just can't decide if all the media on breastfeeding is a good thing or a bad thing.

--I learned tonight that when your husband sends you a delicious picture of jambalaya, I can put all those hours of watching the food network to use, and whip up my own! And ya know what? It tasted pretty dang good!! Take that husband!!

Happy Monday!!

What is it about summer that makes me have NO desire to even look at a computer? I do not even want to read blogs, let alone write a post! My email inbox is pretty much just bloglovin emails I haven't deleted yet because I want to read the awesome post in there, I just have no desire to grab the lap top and put the effort in.

I can't believe August is already here! My mom and sisters are stopping by this week on their way to and from Texas and I'm pretty excited about that shiz! Have I told y'all I have the bestest friend EVER? Because I do! I light heartily made a comment about switching my alone time with her for cuddles with her babies. All she read in that sentence was "alone" I think, and responded with two minutes letting me know she was coming to visit, in THREE WEEKS! I am SO excited!

This weekend was a lot of fun, and I'm starting to like some these Memphis folks! Friday and the better part of Saturday were spent watching movies, vegging out, and maybe a few adult beverages with some girls from work. Saturday night involved a birthday party, some flip cup, and jamming out to some Whitney Houston before calling it a night! and I didn't take any pictures of this (well at least not ones I want to share...).

Now the weekend is over, and I am reminded how old I am. I need to detox and sleep! Hope your weekend was full of unicorns and rainbows and alllllllll that kind of jazz!

Friday Friday gotta get down on Friday

Thursday, July 31, 2014

Oh weekend, how I've missed you! I am so glad to reunite with you and I hope you treat us right! Lets start it out with linking up with {{Amanda}} with all of our Friday favorites. Don't ask questions, just do it.

Favorite Song:
I don't know if it is an old song or new, but I love it and think it's catchy.

Favorite Recipe:
I love grilled wings! There are lot's of marinade recipes out there but this is my favorite:
2 cups coco cola
juice from 2 limes
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons (depending on how hot you like it) Sriracha
https://www.google.com/search?q=grilled+wings&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=6RbbU5iCD9WuyATzrIG4Cw&sqi=2&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=648#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=oL2RkBO2cSRSvM%253A%3BdTq3xz43ccSMDM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fnowfeed.me%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2011%252F04%252FDSC_2864.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fnowfeed.me%252F2011%252F07%252Fasian-style-chicken-wings%252F%3B3008%3B2000

Let this simmer on the stove until it becomes thick and then allow it to cool before adding your wings. I usually just buy wings when they're on sale, make the marinade and then freeze it all together until I'm ready to eat them. So good!!

Favorite Purchase:

I'm not sure I will actually love the Kimono look on me, but I decided to jump on the band wagon and order one. I'm just waiting for it to arrive to see if I will be returning it or not.

Favorite Moment:
My husband was finally starting to feel human again so we tried out a new Mexican place around the corner. We had the BEST margaritas and dinner conversations. It is for sure going to be our new spot!

The BP Era.

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

You know what I'm talking about, the BP Era= Before Pinterest. Sometimes it is a hard concept for me to remember too. How did I find delicious recipes to whip up? Did people actually look in a cook book? My decorating ideas were a boring blend of any modern day decor I could score at Kohls or Hobby Lobby (Live, Laugh, Love bitches!). If it were not for pinterest I would have never discovered some of my favorite blogs. If it were not for pinterest my closet would be an embarrassment, actually I take that one back, my closet is still an embarrassment, but I have high hopes for it one day. If it were not for pinterest I wouldn't be living in this 4 story mansion I made out of 3 wooden pallets and a bottle of gold glitter... #DIY!

But seriously, I would also like a wedding do-over, don't get me wrong, I loved our wedding. That being said, we were in no place to afford a wedding planner (although we tried to win one with an amazing video of Taylor and I dancing in drag... wanna see it??), so all of my wedding decor and ideas were solely based off of magazines and other people's weddings (17 year olds are gasping in disgust at the very thought of this out of date tradition!!!).  If I could do it over, there are so many inexpensive details I would do.

And my theme would be completely different. I would still have a fall wedding, but the decor would be more shabby chic, less country like.

This was from our wedding, I loved the décor, I would just do it differently with the endless ideas on Pinterest.
My dress would have been different, and I would have worn a veil. I would have a whole pinterest board dedicated to my dress, and another one with my wedding day boot camp workouts (that would probably never be put to use!). Oh yes, I would have all the wedding boards! I was so laid back because I just didn't want to put the effort into it. But, with pinterest... Well.. I probably would have went full bridezilla. The ideas would have been right at my finger tips, along with the stress of molding my day into the exact vision of a perfect, pinterest wedding. But I would so do it. I think.
Yes Please! {{Via}}
Then again, eloping on the beach doesn't sound half bad either, you can find that shit on pinterest too.
Yeah, this looks good too! {{Via}}

Were you married in the BP Era? Would you do it all over too?

One thing I would most certainly keep the same in my wedding do-over is the cake. I mean it tasted good and it described me and my husband perfectly!

Weekend-y things.

Monday, July 28, 2014

I had big plans to knock off some items on our Memphis bucket list, unfortunately my husband had other plans. He has been away for the week at the Coast Guard academy for schooling and had really been feeling awful while there. I didn't really know how bad until Friday when I jokingly said "Well I guess it will just be a new tradition of ours, going to the ER after your homecoming" and he responded very seriously "I guess so". So that is exactly what happened. I picked him up from the airport around 10 p.m. on Friday night and to the ER we went.  They pumped him full of fluids and did a cat scan which determined he was suffering from a case of food poisoning. So after he laid sleeping on the bed getting antibiotics (my butt went numb sitting in an uncomfortable chair while watching Roseanne until 4:30 in the morning), we were cleared to leave!

He was so mad I was taking pictures, I had to entertain myself somehow!
 We left the hospital around 5:00 a.m. and my husband decided he might have an appetite for the first time all week. I was exhausted but there was no way I would turn down his plea for IHOP. I'm pretty sure we looked like crack heads sitting in that booth so early in the morning. My dark circles were extra heavy along with some serious bags, and my poor husband looked like he was rocking the track marks from the IVs they put in both his arms.

Needless to say, we slept most of the day away Saturday, we took Stella for a long walk that evening (the antibiotics really kicked in quick for husband) and then grabbed a bite to eat before retreating to the couch to binge watch The Walking Dead. On Sunday I put the husband on strict bed rest while I worked a little during the day. As soon as I left he was up tinkering around the house, doing exact opposite of what I instructed. He told me it was OK because he took a 2 hour nap that afternoon. I made some awesome stuffed manicotti for dinner (that's for the recipe BFF) and grilled artichokes and then we relaxed on the couch to end the weekend. One of us may have drank a bottle of wine while doing this too, and one of us may have pouted that they couldn't drink wine because of the antibiotics they were on. No need to name names though!!
I take professional pictures...

I have been looking for an antique wash stand to put my Aunt's old wash bowl and pitcher to use. I was so excited when I found a HUGE antique shop here and this wash stand for super cheap!
