I have a really hard time getting motivated to do much of anything productive on Mondays. Monday is the annoying red-headed step child when it comes to days of the week. So since I couldn't show up Monday morning for a weekend recap, I'm here now!
Friday was pretty exciting. I spent the day cleaning out my pantry and taking inventory of everything in there. I know this makes me sounds like a big dork, but that pantry was super crowded. I have so many duplicates of things because my pantry was just so unorganized. If I needed something for a recipe I typically just buy it instead of looking in the pantry first. But not anymore!
This is my next project!
Friday evening we caved, and put out our Christmas stuff. Now, before you go and tell me an elf kills a baby reindeer for every Christmas tree up before Thanksgiving... hear me out. We travel for the holidays, so if we waited for the acceptable time to do things, we wouldn't get to enjoy our decorations very much. So judge away, my house is cozy and christmasy. And Gatsby has only taken off with one Christmas bulb, so I call that a win.
This tree looked a lot bigger in our apartment...
No shave November, you are creepy.
Decorating was hard work.
Saturday we went to the Orpheum for the first time and jammed out to some Old Crow Medicine Show. The Orpheum is a beautiful venue. We had balcony seating, and my beer MIGHT of spilled... on to the people sitting below us. But that is neither here nor there (It truly wasn't my fault). Before the show we had dinner and couple beers at the flying saucer across the street. I ordered the Mojo wings and they. were. HOT.
I need margaritas to get ready..
Sunday was a pretty lazy day for us, a lot of lounging on the couch. We did venture out for some bloody Mary's later that day, but a called it a night pretty early!
Oh helloooooo there Friday! I have been looking forward to you! I typically work on the weekends, but not this time, nope! I'm pretty excited to spend all weekend with my stud muffin of a husband. Saturday we are going to an Old Crow Medicine Show concert and I am SO pumped! It has been about 3 years since we last saw them and this is going to be in a completely different venue then last time. I can't wait.
So here are some things that are my favorite lately!
Favorite Song:
I heard this song on the radio the other day and really liked it, not knowing what it was. Then I saw everyone in social media land posting T-Swifts new video and decided to look at it. I was pretty shocked to discover how much I love a T-swift song (another one, shake it off was good too).
Favorite Product:
This is hands down the best dry shampoo I've ever tried. My hair is the longest it has been in 4 years. When my hair was short I had to wash and style it everyday. Now that it is longer I am trying to re-train it so I don't have to wash it every day. This dry shampoo works wonders, WONDERS I tell ya!
Favorite recipes:
I tried a new recipe this week and revisited an old one. My sister in law sent me this cheeseburger soup recipe and it was really good. I don't suggest adding the ketchup and mustard though.
And I made baked Spinach chips this week too. They are sooooo good. But they don't last long, so make several batches! {{recipe here}}
not super pretty when they're done, but delicious! SEEYA LATER kale chips..
Favorite Funnies:
So a couple weeks ago, one of my co-workers got a promotion and was being transferred to a store in Nashville. A group of us met up for some drinks to send him off in a proper manner. After we left the bar a few of us were heading back to my house, but we decided some snacks were in order before we got there. We stopped at the Kroger by my house for some chips and pizza rolls (I really wanted pizza rolls!!!!). So ya know at night most grocery stores close one of the entrances to the store? Well the first set of doors we approached were closed. I told my friend Kris we needed to go to the other side, and he promptly informed me "no worries, I used to work here" and then he pried the automatic doors open. We made our way to the chip aisle and debated for a good 5 minutes on what we wanted before filling our arms with several choices. We were just about to make our way to the pizza rolls when we were greeted by an employee of Kroger.
Me: (with my arms full of baked lays and hot fries) Hi there, how are you tonight?
Kroger employee: Ummm you know we closed 2 hours ago?
Me: oo ya did? oops! We were just leaving, thank you.
We quickly threw all of our chips back on the shelf and high tailed it out of there. We got into our DDs car, and told her she needed to go to walmart because they were closed.
DD: So did y'all just break into Kroger?
Us: ummm I guess we did!
The next morning we discussed how lucky we were they didn't call the cops! I can not believe we broke into a grocery store. Adult life fail. #OOPS
A friend sent this to me this week, and I immediately sent it to my sister in law who accidentally hit a pedestrian this week. For the record, I have hit 3 (yes THREE), soooo it is safe to say we don't have a great track record in this family..
It's funny because it's true!
Do you have big plans for the weekend?
Linking up with Katelynn for Friday Funnies.
Unless you are my husband, you probably won't care about this post, seeing that this is a totally selfish list of things I want for Christmas. But hey if you're nosey like me, or need some ideas for yourself, read on my friend!
((1)) A bathtub caddy and pillow, because I am obsessed with our Jacuzzi tub. I probably relax in a bubble bath 4-5 times a week. I shower when I need to get ready, but a soak in the tub is my favorite pass time.
((2)) I usually buy all of Chelsea's books when they come out, but for some reason have yet to do so. I would be happy to have her new book or Amy Poehler's new one in my stocking.
My husband is my best friend, and I couldn't be prouder of his career in the military. He is very successful, driven, smart, kind and selfless. He is always putting every else's needs before his own and would do anything for anyone (which is no surprise as to why he joined the military!).I literally could go on and on about how amazing this guy of mine is, but instead I will just show you a picture of how cute he is!
On Veteran's day my husband and some of his co-workers volunteered to help with a flag ceremony at the Memphis Grizzlies/ Lakers game. Unfortunately they couldn't get enough participants (apparently a lot of people don't like wearing their fancy uniforms). We were still gifted tickets to the game though and had a really good time. We ate copious amounts of cheese fries and peanuts (which my husband claims it acceptable to throw on the ground like we were at Texas Roadhouse). We also bought a few of those extremely over priced beers. Few things give me goose bumps, but hearing someone sing the national anthem live, gets me every time. We watched a large group of Air Force recruits take their official oath as well. So cool. The Grizzlies won which is awesome. Any live sporting event is fun, but basketball isn't really my jam. However, scouring the sidelines for Justin Timberlake is!
P.S. There was no success in finding the man who single handily brought sexy back. Womp, Womp!
Sorry I missed posting this on Monday. Would you forgive me if I told you I WON A TRIP to an Ellen Degeneres show, so I was a little bit preoccupied getting my dance on out in L.A.? You would forgive me? Glad to know you are so forgiving! Unfortunately that would be a lie if I told you that. So go on being mad at me while I tell you what I really did.
The only day we did something really exciting was Saturday. We headed over to a "hip" part of town for brunch Saturday afternoon, where the husband and I were an hour late because we were stuck in traffic (get your shit together Memphis!). It only makes sense to watch YouTube videos on your phone when stuck in traffic. Which then causes your phone to die before you even make to your final destination. Which results in a picture-less, bar-hopping weekend. It's a vicious snowball situation.
We met some of the husband's co-workers at Bayou Bar and Grill for brunch and bloodys to begin. After brunch we popped into a few of the other bars in the area before catching the Lyft over to my new favorite place, The Green Cork. They have over 32 wines on "tap" and pretty much every dish is served with cheese. It is the equivalent of dying and going heaven, just trust me. We snagged some comfy chairs by the fireplace and made ourselves quite cozy. The owner came by and introduced herself as our "fairy wine-mother" and was as sweet as could be. Taylor and I decided to call it a night rather early since we had a new 'baby' at home. In honor of our newest fur child we decided to cuddle up on the couch and pop in "The Great Gatsby". We lasted a whole ten minutes before falling asleep, because we are wild like that.
Basically...
Sunday was spent going to church, eating pizza, watching football, and of course The Walking Dead. Hope y'all had an amazing weekend, and if you know how to get me to an Ellen show, let a sister know!
We have had Gatsby for a few days now, and thankfully things are getting easier. The first night was a little rough. We forgot to grab some of Gatsby's food he was eating at the shelter when we took him home. Well between his nerves and eating a new food, his poor stomach couldn't handle it. He threw up several times. Once being at 2:30 in the morning, and I could literally hear his stomach rumbling. We felt so bad for him. The next day my husband picked up a small bag of his food from the shelter so we could slowly introduce his new food. He is doing much better now.
Sorry Gatsby, no spinach dip for you!
We have also decided he came to us house broken. We have only had one accident in the house, and it was totally my husband's fault!! Because Gatsby is a tri-pod, he does have some troubles getting around our house. He tends to stick to the rugs because he doesn't slip, but he is slowly venturing out. Our other fur-baby is a little jealous and keeps taking all of the toys and bones and hiding them from Gatsby. It's actually kind of funny, but since he hasn't ventured out much of his comfort zone, he has no idea there is a whole other part of the house to explore. Stella won't be too happy when he does of course, because that is where she is hiding his toys!
That's my husband, cleaning the area rug on the deck. That's what happens when you forget to let the dogs out.
Other than being a little jealous, Stella and Gatsby are getting along fantastically. They run circles around each other in the back yard. Gatsby is so fast when he gets going, sometimes too fast. His pimp limp gets the best of him sometimes and face plants into the grass. I am also pretty certain they have made a promise to each other to bark at whatever it is the other one is barking at, even if it is their own shadows. Strength in numbers I suppose. Hope everyone enjoys the weekend, I'm going to go cuddle with this guy. He has learned to get up on the couch, and nobody is going to kick a three legged dog of the couch, nobody.
No this isn't a pregnancy announcement, I am just that crazy dog lady (the one who refers to her pets as her 'babies'). Blog meet Gatsby, Gatsby meet blog.
Is he not the cutest? I just love him. Wanna know how we ended up with this stud? I thought so, so I will tell ya! A few weeks ago, Taylor and I were near the Humane Society(HS) and decided to take a peak around. We weren't there for 20 minutes before I told Taylor we needed to leave before I burst into embarrassing, sobbing tears. I wanted to bring them all home. My husband happily obliged, mostly out of fear if we stayed longer I would bring them all home. On our way out of the dog kennels we passed through the lobby. It was there we were first greeted by our adorable Gatsby (formally known as Lancelot at the HS). He was hopping right along, stopping to get love from anyone willing to give it. I happily scratched behind his ears, and noticed the staples in his shoulder. The HS worker told us he had been hit by a car and brought in by a good Samaritan. His front left leg didn't make it, but this little guy was certainly a survivor.
excuse his.. happiness.. but the smile is precious!
About a week later, I started thinking about that little guy and I text my husband and told him we should go get him. I joked that we could call him Gatsby and yell "Come here ol' sport!". My husband politely told me I was crazy and that would be a big NO! Wellllllllll, I do not hear that word very often, so I resorted to plan B. I found Gatsby's pictures off the HS website and started sending them to my husband. I also repeatedly asked EVERYDAY if we could go see him. Two weeks later, he agreed but told me we still weren't getting him.
After playing with him for about 30 minutes he agreed to have a meet and greet with Stella, but assured me we were NOT getting him. Two days later we were an hour away from our meet and greet when Taylor told me he didn't think it was a good idea. Not to sound like a brat, but I bawled like a baby. Big, ugly, uncontrollable tears. Ten minutes later we were in the car and I wasn't sure if we were actually going to the HS or to a hospital to have me committed. After seeing how great Stella got along with him, Taylor couldn't say no. Two days later, we went back to pick Gatsby up and take him to his FUR-ever home.
